Do you need new environmental portraits? Allow me to capture you in your natural environment.
Through posing techniques and photography composition, I can capture your character and personality in your natural surrounding. Your true personality can be captured and your character will illuminate through the portrait.
Environmental portrait photography is best executed when we are in your usual environment such as an art studio, a kitchen, your workplace, or even your home. The goal with all my environmental portrait is to illuminate you, your life, and your surroundings.
I strive to capture the essence of your personality. I succeed through posing techniques to make you feel comfortable and at easy and through asking you questions about your vision and communicating with you to make you feel more comfortable with me. It can be awkward getting your photo taken sometimes, I get it. That is why I like to have genuine conversations with my clients to understand them, their vision, and to make you feel more comfortable which results in great environmental portraits. I am different than other environmental portrait photographers because I am not just a camera, I strive to be someone you know and are comfortable with who is using a camera.
Unless you are a professional model or are already very comfortable in front of a camera, most people tend to stiffen up if front of a camera. This is not great for the environmental portrait and it does not allow your true personality to shine through. It helps that we will be in your natural environment. This setting should naturally result in a more relaxed body language and facial expression, however, posing also plays a big factor.
The pose you choose should be natural and convey your personality based on the environment you choose. For those who do not know how to pose or get uncomfortable in front of the camera, that is where I help out. By asking you questions about your environment and uncovering how you interact with your environment on a regular basis, we can capture the best environmental portraits and it will not feel “staged” or “posed.” It will be all natural which often produces the best environmental portraits.
The beauty about environmental portraits is that the location can take on many forms. Great environmental portraits are able to tell a story about their subject. The location that is chosen is supposed to give insight into who you are as a person and what you like to do.
Popular locations for environmental portraits include your home, place of work, where you play sports, or anywhere else that is meaningful for you. The location is an extension of you and your characters and will help give the viewer insight into your background and story.
Environmental portraits put you in context with your surroundings. I ensure to include the best visual elements around you to help tell the story of who you are.
Many people ask what is the difference between a standard portrait and an environment portrait? Well, it’s the same as a standard portrait, except in an environmental portrait we would want to go to the place where you spend most of your time. These portraits are essential if you need professional photos of you “in action.”
For example, if you are an artist, we would photograph you in your studio and I would photograph you while you create your art. If you are a chef, I would photograph you in your kitchen while you cook, etc.
I ask that my clients do not add filters or crop any of the final edited images. I spend time ensuring the color balance and tones are correct in each image! If you want a particular edit style please let me know before the shoot and I can accommodate since I have experience editing many different styles.
You will receive the edited files within 2 weeks of your session. You will receive all of the files via WeTransfer, which is an easy + free email service. You can then send them to print, forward to your friends + family, and post online!
Download links expire after a few day so be sure to download your images as soon as possible!
If the location is in Orange County there is no travel fee. If the location is in Los Angeles there is a $15 travel fee.
Part of my job is making the image selects and choosing the most flattering photos. I do not want to deliver images that are repeats, blurry, out of focus, shots of you blinking, or mid-sentence speaking.
I do not withhold any images, I only remove the “bad” ones based on the criteria listed above.
I suggest blocking out 2 hours for your shoot the time. My timeframes are pretty generous. I usually wrap up earlier if I am able to shoot quickly.
I plan shoots based on one location and its surrounding area. Each additional “location” is +$100.
Location scouting, posing tips, professional photo editing/retouching, camera handling, my witty banter.
I ask for a $100 electronic non-refundable deposit to secure your session date + time. If you need to cancel you can put your deposit toward a re-schedule or you can have it refunded.
