Nature Portrait Photographer

Looking for a nature portrait photographer? Allow me to capture you next portraits using the beauty of natural light.

Nature Portrait Photography

I am specialized in natural light portrait photography. Shooting in nature has become my favorite type of portrait photography and is a favorite among clients as well. Combining nature and subject can create beautiful images that feel very “natural.”

Unlike studio portrait photography where there are set up lights in place — you have to work with natural light and the atmosphere of the day. This can product very beautiful images that can evoke intense emotion and mood within the photograph based on the time of day the photoshoot takes place. You can choose for an upbeat, happy image or a more moody, contemplative image. The choice is yours and we can discuss which is best during the pre-shoot consultation.

Nature Portrait Lighting

The lighting and time of day plays a big factor in nature portrait photography/natural light photography. Since the photos are being taken outside, we have to rely on the weather on a given day. Ideally, it is best to shoot on a day with “overcast” as this type of weather creates a natural soft-box look and avoids any harsh shadows on your face. Other great times to shoot are during sunrise and sunset when the light is diffused, creating beautiful images. The worst time of day to shoot is mid-day when the sun is directly overhead as this can create harsh shadows on your face.

The time of day we decide to shoot can make or break the mood of the image and we can discuss the perfect time of day to shoot to capture the type of images you seek during our pre-shoot consultation.

Having a clear purpose with the photoshoot is very important and I make it a point to understand your vision while providing professional insight so I can capture your best portraits.

The pictures have to tell a story. Having a story behind images makes the viewers of the images more interested in the story. Some important factors that help tell the story other than lighting are also what clothes you choose to wear and the posing within the image. We can determine the best type of clothing during the pre-shoot consultation.

Nature Portrait Posing

One of the key elements of a successful photo shoot with people is creating the mood. It is my job to act as the emotional balancer during the shoot. It is understandable to get tense when your face is in front of the camera, however, it will also show in the photograph.

It is my job to make you comfortable and at ease. I like to think of all my clients as friends and while still offering a professional service, I want to be viewed as more than a person holding a camera. During the pre-shoot consultation, I make it a point to understand your vision and interests to ensure we have a relaxed photo shoot that produces great natural light portraits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What Am I Paying for Exactly?

Location scouting, posing tips, professional photo editing/retouching (color correction, tone adjustments, exposure adjustments, blemish/scar removal, teeth whitening, eye redness reduction, wrinkle/fine line removal), camera handling, my witty banter.

How will I receive the files?

You will receive the edited files within 2 weeks of your session. You will receive all of the files via WeTransfer, which is an easy + free email service. You can then send them to print, forward to your friends + family, and post online!

Download links expire after a few day so be sure to download your images as soon as possible!

Is there a travel fee?

If the location is in Orange County there is no travel fee. If the location is outside of this, there is a small travel fee.

Do I get to select the images?

Part of my job is making the image selects and choosing the most flattering photos. I do not want to deliver images that are repeats, blurry, out of focus, shots of you blinking, or mid-sentence speaking.

I do not withhold any images, I only remove the “bad” ones based on the criteria listed above.

What about time and location?

I suggest blocking out 2 hours for your shoot the time. My timeframes are pretty generous. I usually wrap up earlier if I am able to shoot quickly.

I plan shoots based on one location and its surrounding area. There is a small additional fee for each additional “location.”

Can I Edit the Images?

I ask that my clients do not add filters or crop any of the final edited images. I spend time ensuring the color balance and tones are correct in each image! If you want a particular edit style please let me know before the shoot and I can accommodate since I have experience editing many different styles.

What if I need to cancel?

I ask for a $100 electronic non-refundable deposit to secure your session date + time. If you need to cancel you can put your deposit toward a re-schedule or you can have it refunded.
